Reunions are celebrations! And no one liked a celebration more than Virginia and Ansel Adams.
Dating back to 1928, the Adams family and the Hoss family have been kindred spirits. Hoss family matriarch, Della Taylor Hoss, moved to Yosemite with her husband, Herman Hoss in 1928 where she utilized her creativity, and he worked as the local federal magistrate and treasurer for The Yosemite Park and Curry Company – one of Ansel’s ardent commercial supporters. The two families grew close in the burgeoning community of artists and advocates while the first born sons of each family, Michael Adams and Peter Hoss, would script a best-friends-forever childhood in the Sierra worthy of adaptation. Today, Peter’s own son Martino Hoss has followed in his grandmother’s footsteps, embracing and evolving his own love of art as he has worked in various mediums from serigraphs, ink, oils, and now pastels on copper.
It is with great warmth, therefore, that we welcome back a member of the Hoss family to exhibit on the walls of The Ansel Adams Gallery this autumn. Beginning on October 13th and running though November 16th, Mr. Martino Hoss will be featured in “Yosemite Reunion: Impressions of a Park,” a display of brilliant new pastels by our longtime friend and ceremonial family member.
A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, October 19th from 3-5pm and we hope you can attend what will no doubt feel like a good old fashioned gathering that would make Ansel and Virginia proud.
